Volunteering at an international academic conference can prove to be quite a challenge, especially when one identifies himself or herself as being inherently shy. However, this was not to be the case for me, as I found myself working as a volunteer at the World Conference of Women’s Studies 2026 (WCWS 2026), the experience turned out to be far more than I anticipated. This is journey of personal growth, meaningful connections, and lasting inspiration.
I was assigned the task of helping out in the registration desk and technical support at WCWS 2026. Honestly, both assignments made me work harder than I would have thought – in the most positive way possible. Before the conference, I was well-briefed and was confident that I felt that I was prepared, and throughout the conference, the communication from The Institute of International Knowledge Management (TIIKM) organizing team was excellent. I never unsupported, and the organization and management of the conference was impressive. The venue and facilities were great too, and as a volunteer I had great opportunities to network and meet other people.
The highlight of the experience for me was the encouragement that was prevalent throughout. What really inspired me was the solidarity amongst the participants – people who were from different countries and cultures but all came together with so much warmth and generosity. the whole conference felt like more than just a gathering; it felt like a community.
I used to be quite shy and hesitant when meeting strangers, however WCWS 2026 changed something in me. Through my roles at the registration desk and in the session, i found myself communicating with confident that I didn’t know that I had. By the end of the day, I managed to acquire new skills in event management, networking, and communication. It was surprising and wonderful to discover these abilities in myself.
Joining WCWS 2026 as volunteer not only helped me to develop new skills but it motivated me to be involved in other community events in the future. I am thankful that I had the chance to meet people of different nationalities and cultures. this experience was so valuable for me.
I would definitely volunteer at another TIIKM conference in the future, and I would like to encourage everyone who is considering doing the same thing. To the WCWS 2026 organizing team, thank you. You’re truly amazing.
